Everyone has a differing opinion on which is the most effective way to lose weight. But the sure-fire way to keep it off is to eat less while enjoying the variety of foods that you are eating.

Take the special foods you enjoy and make them an event. For example, if there is a particular meal that is a little higher in fat than normal, prepare it only when certain people come over. This will help prevent over-eating.
Identify your eating cues. Are there areas you are over-eating and you didn't know, or you did know, but you can simply change without it having a big affect on your life?
Eating responsibly. This means two things. One, adding a lot of variety into your diet, in terms of the foods you eat as well as the food combinations. Secondly, find the middle ground between ignorance and obsession with food.
Eating less can be accomplished in a number of different ways. For instance, you can reduce the amount of calories in a meal, reduce the number of meals you consume in a day, or even reduce the frequency with which you eat (fasting).
But what to do if you're having cravings or hunger pains during your fast?
Drink water or tea. Tea works exceptionally well and you will be surprised just how effective it is at offsetting those hunger pains. It is also important to note, that often times, our hunger pains are tied to our expectations.
In terms of cravings, try to make a mental note of what it was you were craving and where you were when you were craving it and then try to work around it.
However, the best advice for someone who is fasting is to stay busy. There's no time to think about eating, let alone eat if you're constantly on the go!
