How to Add Variety and Fun into Your Bodyweight Interval Training Program

We all know how stale a workout can quickly become. In fact, that is sometimes the reason we end up quitting our workouts altogether. So don't let that be your reason for giving up on your workouts. In this video, I show you ways to change your workouts ever so slightly that'll get you motivated to hit the gym and reaching your fat loss goals.

If you've worked out in the past, then you know how monotonous weight training can quickly get. Therefore, in order to keep our interest levels peaked, as well as continuing to see improvement, we need to add both variety and in turn, more fun into our workouts.

Bodyweight circuit training is a hybrid of interval training and strength training. Thus, you are gaining the benefits of both types of workouts all nestled into one short workout.

Not only are you getting a highly effective workout in only a short amount of time, but you are challenging your body from a different angle than it's used to, thus mitigating the risk of hitting a plateau.

Another type of training you can incorporate into your workouts to add some variety is what is known as Tabata style workouts. Tabata style training is where you work hard for 20 seconds and immediately follow that by 10 seconds of holding your position.

For an exercise such as squats, completing 8 rounds of Tabata would be a good target, whereas with pushups you might set your aim to complete 4 rounds.

In addition, you can also use kettlebells and combine them with bodyweight exercises. Not only will you be adding variety and a new challenge to your workouts, but you will also have a complete total body workout that improves your mobility.

For men and women just starting out with kettlebells, I recommend 35lb and 18lb respectively. But pay attention to your form. Too often people inadvertently do more of a squat than an actual swing for this exercise.

The proper form for kettlebell swings is to push your hips back with only a slight bend in the knee, thus getting a good thrust through the hips while working the back of the legs.
