Fat Burning Diet

The best fat burning diet is not a high-carbohydrate diet. But it's not a low-carbohydrate diet either. While a great fat burning diet involves protein, that doesn't mean that you should eat more than 1 gram per pound of protein to lose weight, in fact, that is way too much for most overweight men and women.

So what is the best fat burning diet?

I call it the, "Dental Floss Diet". I know it sounds silly, but it's easy to remember, and effective for fat burning. Here's how it works. You can only eat foods that get stuck in your teeth. Examples include fruit, vegetables, nuts, and many protein sources, such as chicken, beef, or fish. You can skip the meat if you are vegetarian, and just focus on the fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

Foods like pasta, bread, and breakfast cereals are often processed, and are easy-to-breakdown carbohydrates that rapidly convert to sugar in the bloodstream, making you tired and hungry again soon after you eat.

But on the Dental Floss Diet, the foods are high in fiber (except the proteins) and keep you satisfied longer.

Just in case you are wondering, the Dental Floss Diet is not a joke. But I'm willing to call it something else…let's just call it the, "Whole, Natural Foods Diet". You are allowed to eat foods that have not been modified from their original source. Again, this goes back to fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Avoid pasta, breakfast cereals, and bread, as well as any processed foods from a bag or a box.

You will get a lot of fiber, adequate carbohydrate, healthy fats, and just enough protein eating this way. You don't need 1 gram of protein per pound of bodyweight if you are overweight or obese, but that is a common bodybuilder recommendation. And you don't need to over-consume carbohydrates just because you workout each day. That is a bad recommendation from endurance athletes.

Instead, each fat burning diet meal should focus on whole, natural foods, and nothing should be forced (i.e. no excessive protein or sugar is needed). You can eat as many fruits and vegetables as you want on this program, because they are low in calories and fill you up.

And just in case you've ever heard that fruit makes you fat, don't worry, this is not true. In fact, to say that is ridiculous. I have six pack abs and less than 10% body fat, and I eat 10 pieces of fruit each day.

I also eat raw vegetables at breakfast, lunch, mid-afternoon, and with dinner. Keep working everyday to eat more vegetables and fruit. Replace your processed afternoon snacks with an apple and 1 ounce of almonds. You'll feel full and you'll eat fewer calories before dinner and that is the foundation of your fat burning diet.

So next time you hit the grocery store, make sure you get more whole, natural foods, such as apples, broccoli, almonds, pecans, spinach, and oranges. Oh, and don't forget the Dental Floss.
